Welcome to AxON, the CSIRO Alumni on line network. AxON has had an extremely long and difficult gestation and all credit to Susan Smith our Coordinator for her persistence while the concept rebounded in, out and around different layers of bureaucracy, and to Rick Stocker of CSIRO Enquiries whose time and technical input has been critical to getting to this point.
We have wanted to have this available for quite some time as it will become the most important means of communication among Alumni. You should be able to track down former colleagues if they are members and communicate with them direct. Announcements of coming events, seminars, new benefits and opportunities will be readily accessible and should we feel it necessary to put forward an Alumni point of view, we now have the means of effectively gathering input.
In addition, should members be interested in making their expertise available, the 'Alumni in Business' database will be accessible to others who might be looking for such expertise. We also hope to use AxON to establish an "email address for life" available to all Alumni.
There will almost certainly be teething problems while idiosyncrasies of the system are sorted, but I am confident that we will now have a valuable and effective way of networking to develop our full potential as Australia's premier community network of scientific knowledge and experience. |
