Farewell Canon Hill site - story and photos
Thursday, 1 April 2010
On 19 March, Alumni and current staff of CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences (Food Science Australia) celebrated the outstanding scientific research that has been carried out on the site over its 43 year history.
The Canon Hill site will soon be closing its doors and staff will be moving to a new state-of-the-art research facility at Coopers Plains, which they will share with Queensland State government research groups.

Approx 70 people attended the farewell celebrations on the site of which a large number were Alumni and ex staff members. This gave everyone the opportunity to renew friendships and to catch up on what others had been doing since they left CSIRO.
Phil Clarke was the Master of Ceremony for the day and he kept the program running, ensuring every one had enough time to renew old acquaintances. Des Walker gave a very entertaining talk on some of the site's early history (CSIRO Meat Research Laboratory) and he gave a brief outline of the amount of world class research that was carried by the staff while he was involved with the site. Lyndon Kurth then covered the recent history of the site and Professor Martin Cole (the new Chief) gave an outline of where the Division is heading and the work which will be carried out at Coopers Plains.
